A trio of quirky yet soulful electronic tunes got the show off to a fine start this week, kicking off with the wobbly, largely instrumental strains of Mr. Mitch closely followed by the vaguely disturbing vibes of James Ferraro before the slow burner, “Vapore” from Palmistry paved the way for the twisted UK hip hop of Strange U‘s ode to Africa. Jeremiah Jae then contributed his ever welcome MCing talents to some fine languid beat making to get everyone juiced up about his forthcoming album on Warp records, should be great.

Barrio Lindo were next up with some great dubbed up, percussive, global sounds with his home made and self played instruments and was also a taste of his interesting album about to drop on the unstoppable Project Mooncircle. An inspired American African connection then jumped in with some great Afrorganic hip hop vibes with Joe Driscoll‘s vocal versatility providing the perfect foil for Sekou Kouyate‘s excellent Kora playing. Karl Hector and crew then waded in with some full on funk. Speedometer then showed how to tastefully cover one of the year’s biggest tunes with their swinging take on Pharrell‘s “Happy“.

Peshay has ditched his drum and bass for some of that good old soul, jazz and funk with his new material on Tru-Thoughts and we particularly like the jazz beats of “Vanguard“. Now the DopeGems album is about to drop on Heavenly Sweetness and we could have pretty much played any of the tunes from the album but chose the lovely, laid back vibes of “Solstice“. Luviia then upped the tempo with some short but sweet, boogie beats before Slakah the Beatchild hit us with some great nu-soul, out now on BBE Records. The more than danceable Arabic house sounds of Boddhi Satva‘s remix of Alsarah & The Nubatones marked the beginning of the shows uptempto finale. We then couldn’t resist dropping another tune from the new Kassem Mosse album on Workshop before giving you another taste of the forthcoming Downliners Sekt album which ended the show in a decayed, yet deeply soulful manner.
